Description
An operator needs a common mode choke to prevent unwanted common mode currents from traveling along the outer shield of the coaxial feedline, which stops the cable itself from acting as part of the antenna system. By effectively isolating the antenna and suppressing these currents, the choke significantly lowers the receiver noise floor and prevents stray RF from causing feedback problems in the operating shack.
